Carbon Fiber Felt
nano-tube construction of this most
unusual material is spun into a
non-woven fabric felt to recover
precious metals
Updated 3/2/2008
This material will reduce all precious metals in solution, from PH3 to PH 12 in leach or natural aqueous
solutions.  This includes natural waters from Flooded Mines, Rivers, Creeks, Ponds, as well as leaching
solutions you may be using to extract metals from hard ores.

The carrying capacity is near 10 kilos per square meter of fabric.  This was a lab testing known
leaching solutions of Gold, Silver and Platinum Group Metals.  *The loading was obtained using one
FSI column filled with a
10’ x 20” cartridge rolled from this Carbon Fabric, fed by a 40 GPM
submersible electrical pump running at full volume, from a 30 gallon tank of the leach liquid, pumped
into the top 2” opening and allowed to gravity drain directly out of the bottom, back into the leach
tank.

The full-speed flow is well beyond “normal” suggested flows for carbon (10GPM), yet no loss of metals
was observed, and the leach tank was stripped in roughly 6 hours of recycling this liquid through the
FSI setup  as described above.  Remaining liquid had less than 1% metals remaining, and the leach kept
it’s Chlorine mixture at full strength, at PH 12, the original mix used to leach the ores.

The ore materials were ground in a ball mill with this leach mixture first, allowed to settle off in a
separate tank, then the clarified leach with dissolved metals transferred to the pumping/recovery
tank for the final recovery into the carbon filter cartridge.

For those presently using  heavier Coconut carbon granules, this can significantly improve recovery
and reduce handling costs.  These Filter cartridges can be used without the standard FSI insert bags,
exercising care to install correctly.

For filtration from “Natural” sources, this may require pre-filtering to insure only “clean” water
enters.  For leaching solutions, these carbon filters will tolerate ALL common Halogen, Halox, SSN,
Cyanide and other leach formulas equally.

Filters, once loaded, can be smelted directly into furnaces, requiring no preparation, and no
contaminants result from this practice.  These filters can also be stripped of values, as in the Zadra
Process, for electrowinning or other metals separations.  The final wet-chemistry separations can also
be directed into additional Carbon Felt filters to collect these refined values.
Other Uses
This fabric can be used as “Miner’s Moss”, with an  expanded  grating over it, to collect very fine
gold and other precious metals, both in powder form, and as a collector for dissolved values.
This can be used in similar situations where known values are in solutions, such as tailings waters and
recovery areas in placer operations.

The free-flowing characteristics of this fabric allow fine contaminants to pass through the fabric,
yet weld precious metals values tightly to itself, defying “Normal” expectations.  This can have
unusual applications for larger processors of natural and mining water flows.

This can mean large filters can be wound to fit  pipes, tanks and columns, and stray sediments can be
washed free of the materials following loading, without fear of loss of any carbon or metal losses.
The metals literally “plate-out” onto individual fibers and further weld together tightly as a mass,
when sufficient metals gather.

We continue to experiment with this material as Anodes and Cathodes in electrowinning as well…as
the material is highly conductive owing to the Carbon content.

As the recovery, surface area of these filtration carbon felt cartridges is roughly 50 times an
equivalent weight of Carbon Granules, greater amounts of metals can be recovered at higher flow
rates in a much shorter time than normal for most operators.  For many, this will mean a greatly
reduced overall cost, in pumping, maintenance, electric and fuel costs.

For some, this will be the only recovery effort required, as they deliver the loaded cartridges
directly from river to refiner, without leaching, tankage or mining efforts. We expect this will
revolutionize the recovery of a large part of the Gold and precious metals recovery industry.

As the material is quite soft, we advise fixed columns, boxes or similar installation procedure. Handle
the material with care to insure proper fit and alignment as you install it, and protect from rough
handling or excessive water flows which may deform and damage fabrics.

works well below high-grade shaker tables, sluices and
similar gold-bearing waters...catch fine, powder and
micron gold that would be lost otherwise.
