For most of those who chase the golden prize, they seldom acquire the skills or equipment to learn or use this most ancient, yet elegant
art of refining and collecting the precious metals, like the professionals do. First, the equipment one can find for personal use is
horrendously expensive, laden with double-talk jargon, and secondly, revolves around the sacred group who keeps the knowledge of
how it is done mysterious for the layman….and, did I mention Expensive?
In fact, the science is centuries old on this planet, being first done by what we deem “uncivilized” societies, yet with the simplest of
tools and supplies. The related sciences of electro-plating and electroforming are both well understood, as well as the recovery of
selected metals by the same sciences.
The essential difference between electrowinning and electroplating is which way the electricity in the system is flowing. In the one,
gold is withdrawn from the liquid “electrolyte”, or sent from one pole to the other, and the reverse voltage makes the metals in
solution travel to the other.
In practical terms, gold to be plated is dissolved in the electrolyte and sent in ionic form by the sending ANODE, to be re-deposited
on the other pole, the CATHODE. When recovering gold, it exists from some prior effort to dissolve it into an electrolyte solution,
then made to travel to the CATHODE by free electrons being broadcast from an inert ANODE...of various types. That is
